Last year I started sculpting with polymer clay. I decided to make miniature animals because I loved the miniatures I've been collecting from Koki Craft . She uses traditional clay but I wanted to try it with polymer as I can bake it at home and don't need a kiln.  I'm really enjoying learning how to make things with it. At the moment I'm using white polymer clay from Kmart. This has a soft texture which I like as I find harder ones a bit hard on my hands. I also find it easier to work with than paper clay, which is funny because I used to think I should stick with paper clay as it was the cheapest but it turns out I'm improving faster with polymer clay.  I have been painting my creatures with acrylic paints after baking. Most acrylic paints work well but a few seem to get a bit sticky. I then coat the finished item with a few layers of Modpodge. This one has been a long time coming! I took a lot of breaks due to some issues and learned a lot along the way! It all began when I found a secondhand quilt cover with two really pretty patterns: I used my go-to pattern for the skirt. I went with the longer length skirt (view A and B) with the ruffle from the edge of the quilt cover on the bottom. The ruffle. I initially cut out a different bodice but I didn't like the fit. I d ecided to combine the two different fabrics into a Gunne Sax inspired dress with the bodice cut from remainders of both fabrics and a different bodice pattern.  The bodice pattern I chose. The new bodice pieces. After that I abandoned the project for quite some time. The centre bodice and side front pieces refused to line up right. I checked and made sure I had cut them out right and I had. Original post here I finished my M7977 blouse at the beginning of the year and still hadn't worn it. There were a couple of things I didn't like.  The first was that it was a purposefully oversized pattern and I maybe went a size too large. The fabric I had used was very stiff and didn't like to gather in nicely at the waist when tucked into a skirt. I don't think this would have been fixed by gathering the waist as in the original instructions, as the thick material just didn't like to fold.  The second thing was it just felt too plain (to me anyway). I wanted it to have some kind of ruffle as on the original pattern. I was thinking of a smaller ruffle or some gathered lace, but I didn't have any black lace ribbon in the house so that would have required a long trip to the nearest sewing supply store or ordering online and hoping it worked.  So in the end I decided to just cut out the original ruffle from the pattern in the same lace fabric as the yoke and see ...
